The kid's college money seems to be evaporating right in front of you - this is going to cost!
There is a cheap possibility - it happened to our van on a 300M trip to
Fredericksburg (wonderful place BTW)
Ours said "P0302 - Misfire on Cylinder 2"
So which cylinder is which? Here's a picture
with the cylinders numbered.
So we were in luck - the bad one was on the front! Seemed too good to be true!
We removed the 10mm bolt that held the #2 igniter coil.
A Toyota igniter coil thing.
We disconnected the plug at the top to allow enough room to pull the igniter
coil out of the engine.
Then we removed the plug. There was a LINE of something that went from the
connector to the base of the plug!

This is where our spark had been grounding out rather than igniting the
mixture in cylinder 2!
We stuck in a new plug, cleaned the inside of the igniter shaft (in
case carbon had built up inside) then
re- assembled. Cleared the codes (disconnect battery for 15min if you
don't have a reader that can
erase)
SMOOOOOOOOOTH running! Cost of fix - about $3 for a new plug!
Did not find a bad plug? Try swapping the Igniters around (they are all
the same after all)
See if the code changes (don't forget to clear the codes between tests)
If still no luck, try swapping injectors around and retest.
If codes seem random, perhaps fuel contamination or low fuel pressure.
Have you just saved money? Did you find this useful? We
would love to hear! (See Contact page)
